Peru|Tracking Oil Tank Trailers in High-Risk Environments
Highlights
- Enabling safe tracking of oil tank trailers in high-risk transportation environments.
- Maintaining asset visibility even when trailers are detached or operating without vehicle power.
- Supporting long-term monitoring under strict safety and operational requirements.

Based in Peru, the customer is a fleet tracking and telematics solution provider supporting oil and gas transportation operations across South America. They work closely with transportation fleets operating in safety-critical environments, delivering tracking solutions tailored to complex and high-risk use cases.
Goal
One of the customer’s end-users operates oil tank trailers under strict safety requirements, where continuous and reliable tracking is essential. The primary goal of this project was to enable long-term, power-independent tracking of oil tank trailers, even when the trailer is detached from the cabin or operating without external power, while remaining compatible with existing sensor integrations.
Challenge
Oil tank transportation presents unique challenges due to high-risk operating conditions and extended deployment periods. Standard tracking solutions were not suitable, as the device needed to operate safely when placed inside a fireproof enclosure and continue functioning for long periods without relying on vehicle power.
In addition, maintaining visibility became especially difficult when trailers were detached from the cabin, creating monitoring blind spots during transit and increasing operational risk.
SYSTECH’s Solution
To address these challenges, SYSTECH implemented a solution centered around UT1 GPS Tracker, a tracking device designed to support long-term asset monitoring in demanding and safety-critical transportation environments.
UT1 is well suited for applications such as oil tank trailers and other heavy-duty assets, where reliable tracking is required even when external vehicle power is unavailable. By deploying UT1 within a fireproof enclosure and integrating it with external sensors, the solution enabled continuous monitoring of trailers operating in high-risk conditions, including scenarios where the cabin is detached from the trailer.
This approach allowed the customer to deliver a stable, safety-compliant tracking solution to their end-user, while maintaining visibility across extended transportation periods without frequent maintenance or on-site intervention.
